Kids & Family Surf Lessons Inishowen

Fun in the water for all ages
Lessons the whole family can enjoy together

Let the kids have a go

If you've brought the family to Donegal, there's a good chance the kids will want to get into the water at some point.

Why not let them?

Surfing gives them something to do that doesn't involve a screen, and they get to learn something while they're at it.

At Inishowen Surf School, children from 4 years old can take part, provided they're confident in the water. There is no upper age limit, so parents can get involved too.

And that's probably the best part.

You don't have to spend the morning standing on the beach watching.

Kids surf lessons in Inishowen

A child's first surf lesson is mostly about getting comfortable.

The board might feel unfamiliar. Paddling takes a bit of getting used to. Then there's the small matter of trying to stand up while a wave is moving underneath you.

There will probably be a few tumbles.

That's alright.

Kids tend to get back on the board fairly quickly.

The aim isn't to have them surfing like a professional after one lesson. It's to introduce them to surfing, let them enjoy being in the water, and give them some skills to build on.

What age can children start?

Children from age 4 can take part, as long as they're water confident.

That covers a fairly wide age range, so a family doesn't necessarily need to split up because the children are different ages.

You may have a six-year-old who is keen to get going and an older teenager who wants to see what they can do on a board.

Both can enjoy the experience.

If you're looking specifically for teen surf lessons in Ireland, surfing can also be a good option for teenagers who want something a little different during the holidays.

Family surf lessons

There's no reason for the parents to sit this one out.

Family surf lessons give everyone a chance to get into the water. You can learn the basics together and then see who manages to stay on the board longest.

There may be a bit of competition.

That's fine too.

The important thing is that everyone gets to enjoy the session.

For families staying anywhere around Inishowen, Donegal, or the surrounding North West, a surf lesson can make a nice change from the usual sightseeing.

What about groups of children?

If you're bringing several children or teenagers, take a look at our group surf lessons in Donegal.

A group can be a good option for friends, family groups, or organised activities. Everyone gets to have a go, and there's usually plenty of encouragement and a bit of laughing from the people watching.

Surfing during a family holiday

Donegal gives you plenty to do outdoors.

You can spend the morning exploring the coastline, stop for something to eat and then head for a surf lesson.

If you're staying around Malin Head, travelling through Inishowen or coming across from the Derry area, it's an activity worth putting on the list.

And if you're buying for a child who has been asking to try surfing, we also offer surf lesson gift vouchers.

Bring the family

You don't need everyone to be experienced.

You don't even need everyone to be confident on a surfboard.

That's where the lesson comes in.

Get everyone into the water, have a go, and see who catches the first wave.
